Heaney Receives Awards
Robert Heaney, BS’47, MD’51, John A. Creighton University Professor, received the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s prestigious W.O. Atwater Memorial Award at the American Society of Nutrition conference in April. The Atwater Award is considered to be one of the top honors in the nutrition field. Heaney also was one of two physicians earning the National Osteoporosis Foundation’s first Legends of Osteoporosis Award in May at the foundation’s annual meeting for his “extraordinary contributions to the scientific body of knowledge about bone biology and osteoporosis.” Heaney and colleagues at Creighton’s Osteoporosis Research Center are internationally recognized experts in the fields of bone biology and calcium and vitamin D nutrition.
